Kosovo
Republic of Kosovo
?????? ? ????????

Calling code 381
From the CIA and other sources: Albanian nationalism increased in the 1980s, which led to riots and calls for Kosovo's independence. On 17 February 2008, the Kosovo Assembly declared Kosovo independent. Since then, over 70 countries have recognized Kosovo, and it has joined the International Monetary Fund and World Bank. Kosovo has not gained complete international recognition to allow it to become a member of the United Nations as of early 2012. The flag centered on a dark blue field is the geographical shape of Kosovo in a gold color surmounted by six white, five-pointed stars arrayed in a slight arc; each star represents one of the major ethnic groups of Kosovo: Albanians, Serbs, Turks, Gorani, Roma, and Bosniaks.

Located in south east Europe, between Serbia and Macedonia. Area: total: 10,887 sq kilometers, no water bounderies, Kosovo is landlocked and borders the Republic of Macedonia to the south, Albania to the west and Montenegro to the northwest. The remaining frontier belt is with the Central Serbian region which is the source of international dispute. Country comparison to the world: 169th.
