City of Manchester New Hampshire
Manchester New HampshireZip Code 03101, in Hillsborough County. | Manchester was incorporated in 1751. First known as Harrytown and Tyng's Town, the town was granted as Derryfield in 1751. The name Manchester was suggested by Samuel Blodgett, a businessman who found that the Amoskeag Falls impeded shipping on the Merrimack River. After visiting Manchester, England, he was determined to build a canal like those in England. The canal was first opened in May 1807. Mr. Blodgett's goal was to make the town a great city, and although he died in September 1807, it was renamed Manchester in 1810, and incorporated as a city in 1846.

State of New Hampshire Information New Hampshire Entertainment New Hampshire Business Information | One of the original 13 states (1788), New Hampshire was named after the English county of Hampshire. New Hampshire is called the "Granite State" because of the numerous granite quarries; the nickname may also reflect the state's attachment to tradition and its history of a frugal government. There are no general sales or individual income taxes, which fits with the state motto of "Live free or die." A relatively small state, New Hampshire plays a major role every four years in the presidential election, as it holds the first primary election. New Hampshire's state bird is the purple finch and the capital is Concord.
