Carson City Brief History

1851
Eagle Station, a trading post and small ranch was on the Carson Branch of the California Emigrant Trail.

1859
Gold and silver were discovered on the nearby Comstock Lode.

1861
Carson City was selected as the territorial capital.

1868

Kit Carson died at 58 from an aortic aneurysm in the surgeon's quarters in Fort Lyon, Colorado, he was buried alongside his wife, Josefa ("Josephine"), who died a month earlier.

Carson City was founded as a community.

1869
The United States Mint in Carson City was completed.

Virginia and Truckee Railroad (V&T) was completed between Carson City and Virginia City.

1960
Ormsby County was merged into Carson City consolidating government services.
