The City of Columbus Ohio

Columbus Ohio Skyline
Columbus, year 2006 population estimate from the US Census 733,203 persons. Named for the famed explorer Christopher Columbus, the city was founded in 1812. Best known for Ohio State University, Columbus is a major commercial, industrial, manufacturing, and cultural center. Two ports of entry (airport and river) and I-70 connect the city to the rest of the US, and I-71 connects Columbus to Cincinnati and Columbus. Due in part to its economic diversity, Columbus is growing faster than the rest of Ohio. The Census Bureau reports that the population of Columbus grew at the rate of 11.8% between 1990 and 2000, while the population of Ohio as a whole grew at 4.7%. For comparison, population during the same period 1990 to 2000, Akron fell by 2.7%, nearby Dayton fell by 8.9%, and Cincinnati fell by 9.1%.

Columbus is the Franklin County seat, and is in Franklin, Delaware and Fairfield counties.
